The Hopeful Gardener - News
Back from Glee at NEC 23rd September 09
A very good show and plenty of new products to add to the site in the coming weeks. Our favourite has to be the Aerobin - a marvellous garden composter which has easy access to the compost and is rodent and pest resistant. Not cheap, but it actually works.
A new gardening clothing range courtesy of Tayberry which will a great improvement.
Award winning solar garden lights, not the ineffective garden lights which so often disappoint. New garden furniture and fabulous hammocks. Finally a few additions to our Burgon & Ball range with Christmas in mind.

Hopeful Gardener Celebrating Success of First Season & Seeking Co-operative Initiative
8th September 2009
The Hopeful Gardener online store was set up in the Spring of 2009 –all of whom has a passion for gardening and armed with an abundance of enthusiasm, launched the site to meet market demand for a good quality garden site with a community feel.
Sam Gilson, Marketing Manager of Hopeful Gardener explained, “Since moving to Devon from the South East, my friends and I have developed a keen interest in gardening. However, with very little spare time, to wander around garden centres, we turned to the internet for ordering the necessary tools and accessories. We found that although there is a plethora of web sites selling plants which are beautifully packaged and despatched quickly, there are few, if any sites just selling good quality garden tools and practical products such as cold frames. We were hoping to find a site with an extensive range of gardening products, that was friendly and that might even give us a few good tips and ideas. With this seemingly fruitless search and the fact that gardening has become so popular, we decided to develop our own site that would fill the gap.”
Michael Chandler, one of the other founders explained, “We came up with the name, Hopeful Gardener, quite early in our discussions, quickly realising that even seasoned gardeners are hopeful that their plantings are successful. It is also a superb way of describing ourselves, as we have limited gardening knowledge but an abundance of enthusiasm.”
Hopeful Gardener currently carries a diverse range of gardening products, from Burgon & Ball products, to cold frames from the leading UK Company, Hawthorns. The outdoor clothing collection comes from Duke and Honour with a range of eco friendly products such as their bamboo polo shirts.
The team is planning ahead for 2010 and part of that plan is to work with a compost company in a co-operative partnership. Sam explained, “At Hopeful Gardener, we want to offer our customers an unrivalled range of practical products, whilst trying to protect our environment wherever possible. We are actively seeking a company that will deliver compost throughout the UK in re-useable plastic bags. We believe this will help create customer loyalty in addition to helping the environment by recycling the plastic bags, rather than generating more landfill.”
With a head office based in Newton Abbot, Devon, the Hopeful Gardener plans to become a household name in the provision of gardening and outdoor products over the next five years by providing quality products, excellent customer service and a continuous flow of great garden ideas and tips.
